Nell! is a bold new musical inspired by the extraordinary true story of Nell Gwyn; an orange-seller turned comic actress and probably the most famous mistress of King Charles II. Rising from the streets to the heart of the royal court, Nell’s journey is one of wit, resilience, and unapologetic ambition. Her remarkable life bursts onto the stage in a vibrant, high-energy retelling that celebrates a woman who refused to stay in her place.
Set in the world of Restoration England, Nell! The Musical brings together a richly-diverse cast of characters, from swaggering lords and ladies to sharp-tongued bawdy-house girls. Along the way, audiences will encounter familiar historical figures, including diarist Samuel Pepys and King Charles II himself, with many of the show’s characters rooted in real people and events.
With a libretto adapted from an original work by researcher and author Susanne Skinner, and an engaging score by acclaimed musician Dominic Sandford, Nell! delivers fast-paced storytelling, sparkling dialogue, and irresistibly catchy songs.
